The Mérignac site, located in the Bourran park, a former wine estate, belonged to the Minimes of Bordeaux at the end of the Ancien Régime and was sold as national property in 1791 to the lawyer François-Armand Saige, mayor of Bordeaux.

Sold as national property in 1793, it passed through several hands and was acquired in 1865 by the Bordeaux banker Léopold Piganeau and his father-in-law, the shipowner Ravesies, who had the 17th century castle razed. The castle was rebuilt in 1869 by the architects Jules and Paul Laffargue.

In 1944, the property was requisitioned to install the teacher training school and in 1947 became the property of the Conseil Général de la Gironde.

Of the park, laid out by the landscape architect Louis Le Breton, a series of interesting constructions remain: bridge, water tower, cement tree, rock garden grotto and pond.

Like the park in which it is located, laid out by the landscape designer Louis Le Breton, the Château has been registered on the list of Historic Monuments since 1992.
